The GMC171 Brake Master Cylinder is an authentic AP Lockheed type with a durable metal body, designed to bring your Classic Mini's braking system back to its original performance.

This master cylinder comes fitted with a plastic cap, and an alternative metal original cap is available separately as 513123A. It's essential to use the correct DOT4 or DOT5.1 brake fluid with these cylinders, as they are not compatible with other types such as Castrol SRF for racing or any silicone fluid.

In line with the 'End of life vehicles 2003' regulations, AP has transitioned the cylinder color from golden to a glossy silver to be free from Hexavalent.

With a 0.70" bore size, these cylinders were remanufactured again from October 2003, replacing the original drab silver/light grey color.

They serve as a replacement for the later plastic reservoir type, ensuring your Mini retains its classic look while meeting modern safety and environmental standards.

Genuine AP brake master cylinder for the pre '76 Mini drum brake single line system. This original version is fitted with a tin reservoir and is perfect for retaining the original under bonnet look. A modern version of this master cylinder, with a plastic reservoir to allow the fluid level to be seen, is also available as GMC171.

Mini Cooper S and 1275GT models with front disc brakes used a master cylinder with a larger reservoir, see GMC172OE.

Although very similar in appearance to the clutch master cylinder (AAU4969) the brake cylinder can be identified by its larger mounting flange.
